Food Allergies

A couple weeks ago we received some news that has turned our house upside down, well not really but it has caused us to make some changes. We had Henry tested for food allergies since he was always breaking out in rashes. We received our answer about 5 days later. When they test for food allergies they rate them on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being the mildest and 1o being a severe allergy. Henry test showed this:
milk-1
soy-2
wheat-2
eggs-3
peanuts-3

yes this does seem like a lot! Because of where his egg and peanut allergies fall, we have had to eliminate them from his diet. We also now carry an Epi pen everywhere we go so if he should have an allergic reaction we will be prepared to handle it.

We had been giving Henry soy formula because the milk based formula did not seem to sit well with him. So we have had to switch him off of soy formula onto reg milk since he is less allergic to milk then soy. We are still allowing him to have milk, wheat, and soy products but we are aware of when we are giving them to him and we monitor him closely.

W e have become very good at reading labels now, it would surprise you the number of foods that contain these allergens. We are hoping that he will out grow them and he will be retested at age 3. So for now we will be very vigilant in what we allow him to eat.

Teacher having a baby

This is a conversation i had with Silas the other day about his preschool teacher who is expecting:

Silas "My teacher is having a baby"
Mom "I know"
Silas "do you know how it got in her tummy?"
Mom "do you?"
Silas " yep, she ate it!"
Silas "Mrs. Stabb eats alot cause her baby is hungry"
Silas "Do you know how that baby comes out?
Mom "yes i do, do you?
Silas "Yep it just pops out, up the air like a hot air balloon"
Mom "oh is that right"(trying hard not to laugh)
Silas came home a couple days later and said "Mrs. Stabb said i cannot watch the baby come out, i asked" (he did ask i confirmed it)
